Gym Exercises And Why You

Should Be Doing Them!

I will go through some of the individual reasons below but the first point i would make is that incorporating the types of exercises that you can typically only do in a gym or in a home gym (if you've got some basic equipment) is the quickest and most efficient way to see rapid and lasting changes in your body composition. Remember this type of exercising has developed and evolved for exactly this purpose.Whether your goal is to build muscle, burn fat or just increase your overall level of fitness or flexibility, the quickest way to do this is to start using gym exercise equipment in ways that are already proven to be effective. Before we go any further i'll make the point, which deep down we intuitively all know to be true. There are no so called 'quick fixes' or 'magic bulletts' or 'shortcuts'. Yes knowing the best gym exercises, what to do and how to do it properly are all essential to your long term success but that success will ultimately be down to consistently applying that knowledge and following whatever plan you're on.

Dan's video below maybe a somewhat exaggerated and humerous take on gym etiquette but trust me its largely true. So if you're new to exercisng at the gym please don't let this be you!!

Forewarned is forearmed.

Reason 1:To Improve Your Appearance

The reason that first drives many to start exercising is to improve their appearance.Whilst this may not always be the most important reason to begin exercising there is absolutely no doubt that exercising regularly can drastically improve how you look. Depending on your preference you can use exercise to both burn away fat and to build and sculpt muscle, in what ever way is most aesthetically pleasing to yourself.Even if this is not your primary motivation you'd have to admit it's a pretty nice side effect!

Reason 2:To Improve Your Health

Without going into too much detail here it's safe to say that exercising regularly can lead to a leaner and healthier you. In particular improving your body composition i.e your fat to muscle ratio which will result in greatly reducing the pressure your body places on your heart, greatly improving your overall functioning and decreasing your chances of any cardiac distress or failure in the future.Gym Exercises when done properly will result in increased muscle mass, stronger and healthier joints and increased bone  density which can be of increasing importance as we age.Increasing and maintaining bone density can be achieved through the use of weight bearing exercises and proper nutrition at any age. This type of exercise both encourages bone formation and aids in calcium retention. This is a major preventive factor in relation to Osteoporosis which affects many people as they age, in particular women, who in general tend to be less inclined to engage in these types of exercise.Gym Exercises will also improve your general functional strength, your balance and your co-ordination.For any teenagers reading this it can also help with Acne.

Reason 3: To Maintain Your Health

Losing weight and staying lean or building and maintaining muscle mass should not be temporary endeavours but rather a lifestyle and a mindset you adopt as your default setting, so to speak. Anyone can go on a so called 'crash diet' or exercise hard for a few short weeks but its about adopting and sticking to new ways of exercising and living. If you put the effort and work in to improve your body and health you will most likely be pleased with the results and how you now look and feel and therefore be naturally motivated to keep up what you're doing. You'll also find that when you put effort and discipline into exercising it will be easier to stick to a healthy diet and lifestyle. You just won't want to undo all your hard work by eating to much chocolate and fast food etc or drinking too much wine and beer at the weekends i'm not advocating you avoid these things altogether btw, you should always allow youself the odd indulgence (What's the point otherwise!) but just that you'll find that once you're in better shape it's somewhat easier to exercise restraint when you know you really should.

Reason 4:To Reduce Your Stress levels

I'll admit this was never the reason i started working out but it was certainly something i came to discover and have come to appreciate. Doing gym exercises is a great way to discharge your pent up energies, aggression or frustrations etc. Exercising gives you something else to focus on, a way to take you mind off other things and can result in the release of endorphins that just make you feel better.Whilst some days i can find it hard to get myself down to the gym, i never find myself regretting i did and always feel better for having done so. It will also improve your sleep which is another great way to combat stress!

In Conclusion: It's All Good!

Doing the types of exercises that are synonymous with the Gym will have you looking better, feeling better, being better and staying better and i can almost guarantee you won't regret it. So get started and don't you stop!!
